Time to get serious!

OK!  First post of the NEW YEAR!!!  Yes, the buzz is around me!  Exercise more, eat better, lose weight.  I’m on board.  I debated about which diet to try…my brain is in constant motion pertaining to health and fitness.  South Beach? Burst Cycle Diet? Whole 30? Vegan?  The list could continue forever.  I get a little crazy when I follow a plan and always seem to fall off the wagon when it’s over.  For this month and next, I’m eating clean and healthy.  That’s it.  Very low sugar.  3 things I’m working on:

  • More Protein
  • A gallon of water a day
  • Less carbs

PROTEIN: I quickly googled the top 10 protein sources.  Put them on your shopping list!

  • Turkey or Chicken breast
  • Fish (Tuna, Salmon, Halibut)
  • Cheese (non-fat mozzarella, cottage cheese
  • Pork Loin
  • Lean Beef
  • Tofu
  • Beans (soy beans, kidney, black, white beans)
  • Eggs (especially egg whites)
  • Yogurt or Milk
  • Nuts and Seeds (Pumpkin, almonds, peanuts)

thWATER:  Super important.  Everywhere and in every diet or weight loss plan, MORE WATER is recommended.  I think the majority of people get busy and forget to drink, me included.  I’ll be filling up my water bottle several times each day!

th-1LESS CARBS:  What does that mean?  Nothing new, but a proven fact.  Less carbs=lose weight.  I should say BETTER CARBS.  I’m going to aim for 2 carb servings a day for awhile.  This includes oatmeal, brown rice, quinoa, whole wheat bread, whole wheat pasta.  Eliminate WHITE FLOUR and WHITE SUGAR and you got it down!

th-2My exercise plan is simple right now.  6 days a week as usual.  I’m going to up my running and cardio and or course lift weights 4 times a week.  I’m still working on my 4 day a week workouts.  I’ll have to post them next time!!  LOVE LOVE lifting weights, eating healthy, and then seeing results!!!  Keep at it!!  Work Hard!  And surround yourself with uplifting people who are on board with you as well!!

I’ll end with a SWEET SWEET song!!  I just took on the job of directing our elementary school play, Aladdin Jr., and I’m in heaven each day watching the kids sing and dance!  My little 2nd graders are going to sing this song as a pre-show.  Let’s go fly a kite.  This version is from the movie Saving Mr. Banks.  Such a GREAT movie!  Listening to it always makes me happy.  Love Mary Poppins!  Have a great day!

  1. Love your blog, Holly! The one phrase that sticks with me “Athletes eat and train, they don’t diet and exercise.” I consider you an athlete! 😀 With carbs, if it helps, try keeping them with your early in the day meals. Avoid them past noon. I’m REALLY IMPRESSED that you can lift – 4 days a week! I’m pushing myself at three days of interval/circuit training for an hour with 30 minutes of cardio. I’ll run two days (one being a long run) and take a spin class on day 6 – sometimes, I’ll skip day 6 and just call it a “get caught up at home day, too.” Happy New Year to you and your family. ~ Jeanne

    • Thanks Jeanne! I love that compliment. I definitely walk the line between dieting and eating like an athlete. I also take day 6 off sometimes too if I’ve had a hard week. Thanks for the carb advice. Food is always the hardest for me and the most important. When I lower the carbs and eat more healthy I always see results!

      • Yesterday, I tried something new. I was at Wholefoods, and noticed the man ahead of me in line had two containers of Wallaby organic whole milk plain yogurt. I use plain yogurt for lower sugar. They were on sale two (32oz containers) for $7. I must say……. it was the BEST yogurt ever! I mixed it with a little bit of whey protein. Added some thawed/frozen blueberries and raspberries. It tasted SO GOOD! The fat content of the yogurt gave it such a creamy taste. Kept me full – forever! Plus, it was like having a dessert, it tasted so good. I may try it with vanilla whey powder in lieu of whipped cream – it was so good. I’ve also tried it with whey protein and peanut butter. H-E-A-V-E-N. That was my big sin, and I loved it. So – organic whole milk Greek yogurt is my new thing. I may try their lowfat, too. Just to compare. It was to die for….<3

      • Thank you! I’m going to share your comments right now (: I rarely eat yogurt cuz I can’t find one low enough in sugar that tastes good. I’m trying this!

      • I added a dollop of Wallaby’s whole milk plain Greek yogurt into my smoothie today. I think the extra fat kept me satiated longer. My son had sports tonight, so we got home really late for dinner….and I was extremely surprised that I was able to climb the stairs for 30 minutes and then foam roll…(while my son had sports) and more Mom stuff at home later…. am just now having my salad – didn’t get hungry! No snack! So, the extra fat – I think helped tie me over. I’m still experimenting with it – but so far… so good!! I like it. Enjoy.
