Stubborn and Dilligent

This post will be quick since it’s from my ipad.  Just a few thoughts about weight loss.  I was listening to my friends talking the other day about trying to lose weight and different diets that others have tried. They mentioned some girls they knew who’d lost a lot of weight on some diet.  Then they said when they went back to eating normal they gained it all back and MORE!  Shocking!  What was funny was my friends quickly said, “Why lose weight then if I’m going to gain it all back and then some!”  Really?  It’s not the diet that made them gain it back.  It was going back to old eating habits.

Keeping weight off is hard for 99% of the population.  You have to decide which one you want more because it’s a lifestyle change you have to do FOREVER!  I’m so completely stubborn and dilligent that I refuse to use that excuse.  I work hard for a hard body 🙂 It’s not easy and I love sugar and flour but I love how I feel more without it.  I save sugary goodness to once a week and it works for me.  Keep at it.  It does work!

I don’t know how to post pictures too well from the iPad but here is the cutest pic. I had to share!  These are 2 boys from my 10 year olds team.  The lineman looking out for his running back!  Both are great players!  Football rocks!

The “I’ve never been more sore in my LIFE” workout!!

Today is usually not a post a workout day, but all I can think about is what my LEGS workout did to me because I can barely walk!  I thought I’d post it while it’s fresh on my mind and BODY!!!  I’ve been following Jamie’s workouts for several months now.  She has an amazing 12 week program!  It’s divided in 3 phases, progressively getting harder.  The workout I did was DAY 57 (Day 1 of Phase 3).

I’ve done this lower body workout many times.  I hadn’t done it for several weeks though and I went heavier.  I did it on Tuesday evening.  Wednesday I was a little sore and when I woke up Thursday morning it was KILLER worse!  I still LOVE being sore and I’m sure every gym rat feels the same way.  So, I’m happy to SHARE!  I suggest doing this workout at the gym unless you have a pretty sweet set up at home.  I only rest 30 seconds-1 minute between sets.  When it says active rest, I don’t rest at all.  Here it is with a few alterations (in red) and side notes on what I did exactly:

  • Leg Press Leg Press

    Leg Press (shoulder stance) I put two 45 lb. weight plates on each side.

    3 sets of 15 reps

  • Freehand Jump Squat Freehand Jump Squat

    Freehand Jump Squat Make sure you squat LOW!

    3 sets of 15 reps

Working Set + Active Rest:

  • Barbell Lunge Barbell Lunge

    Walking Barbell Lunge I used a 50 lb. bar.

    3 sets of 20 reps, 10 steps down, 10 back

  • Long Jump Long Jump

    Long Jump  Killer, squat low and jump far.

    3 sets of 20 reps, 10 steps down, 10 back

  • Leg Extensions Leg Extensions

    Leg Extensions I set the weight at 80 lbs.

    3 sets of 20 reps

  • Lateral Bound Lateral Bound

    Lateral Bound (side-to-side single leg hops) I do 40 side curtsy jump lunges instead of this.

    3 sets of 20 reps

End of superset; resume normal sets

  • Smith Machine Squat Smith Machine Squat

    Smith Machine Squat I don’t put weight under my heels and I used 25 lb. plates on each side.

    3 sets of 30 reps, place a plate under the heels to emphasize quads

Working Set + Active Rest:

Working Set + Active Rest:

           Rope Jumping

3 sets of 1 min

I’m supposed to work legs again on Friday and at this point I don’t know how that will happen!!  In a couple days I’ll post my results from my body fat test and weight.  I don’t know if I’ll make 129 by the 20th.  I might need to run 20 miles tomorrow!  We’ll see.
I do have ONE Thursday thought!  I saw a quote the other day at a restaurant that reminded me of my political and life values.  I am not a political guru but of course my mind and everyone else’s is on the presidential election right now.  I wish Abraham Lincoln was running for office or Galt and Rearden.  If you don’t know who they are you are missing out!  Read ATLAS SHRUGGED.  Good quotes to remember:

You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich.

You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.

You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.

You cannot lift the wage earner up by pulling the wage payer down.

You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred.

You cannot build character and courage by taking away people’s initiative and independence.

You cannot help people permanently by doing for them, what they could and should do for themselves.

~~~Abraham Lincoln
Who do you think I’m VOTING for?  ONE candidate believes this same way!
Crack yourself up!
Much of my blog is devoted to motivational and inspiring quotes and thoughts.  Today I need to LAUGH!  Enjoy a few quotes from DEEP THOUGHTS by Jack Handey.  You’ll remember them if you are OLD.  They are funnier on video.  He puts the words to a soft song and a nature scene in the background.  Pretty much making fun of everyone’s serious quotes and philosophies.  I love it!!  I did have a few ideas to philosophize over today but I’ll save it for another day!  I will say, LIGHTEN UP AND ROLL WITH IT!
Here’s a few I found most funny.  I don’t know why!
If you ever drop your keys into a river of molten lava, let’em go, because, man, they’re gone.
If I ever get real rich, I hope I’m not real mean to poor people, like I am now.
Children need encouragement.  So if a kid gets an answer right, tell him it was a lucky guess.  That way, he develops a good, lucky feeling.
39 Happiness Favorites
This morning my daughter started singing, “Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens, bright copper kettles, and warm woolen mittens…”  Pretty soon she got me singing along trying to remember the words to the classic Sound of Music song, “These are a few of my favorite things.”
The Sound of Music makes me happy!  I have shared many of my obvious favorites on this blog: travel, exercise, clothes, sugar, music, and diets (although not following them).  Sometimes I get tired of seeing and hearing people talk about the things they hate.  I don’t like the word hate.  Let’s say people complaining about what bugs them.  I created a list of WHAT BRINGS ME HAPPINESS.  I’d rather focus on the positive ALWAYS!  39 is sure a GREAT number.  Random and silly like my 129.  I’m sure I’m driving the OCD people crazy.  Oh well.  Here is my 39 FAVORITES list in no particular order!!
Happiness is:
1-Dilly’s perfume
2-Whipped Vanilla Lip Gloss from Bath and Body Works
3-Roxy slip on shoes
6-The Sun
7-Seeing my kids laugh
8-A clean house
10-A good book
11-Going on drives
14-People who lift you up and make you happy
18-Dates with my Hon
21-Hot baths
22-Smelly lotions
23-Clean shaven
25-Quiet (Yes, I’m old)
26-Yummy Smells
28-Mint chocolate icecream, cake, junior mints etc…
29-Thank you notes
30-Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter
31-Being Healthy
32-Home Videos
33-Playing Games
34-Sitting by a fire
36-My Bed
38-Doing something for someone else
39-Laying on the grass and looking at the stars
I have many more!  It’s good to remember and review often.  Happiness is where you are and all around you!
Another key to happiness is to have fun and stay a kid at heart!!  Today my group of 6 pony friends had a lunch together!  We each picked a pony for us to be.  I’m officially TWILIGHT SPARKLE.
She loves to learn new things.  She’s tidy, clean, organized, and she’s straightforward and honest with her friends.  My daughter was asking how old I was the other day.  It doesn’t matter how old you are.  Your heart stays the same year after year.  Be happy!
P.S. My 3 year old took this picture!  AMAZING!!
Challenge 20 to 20
My husband is sick of hearing about my goal to be 129 (I say that in the nicest way).  I’m a “CRAZY, have to finish everything” kind of person.  When I can’t find something, I literally will NOT give up until I find it.  Same way with my health goals.  Sooooooo, once again, I will be 129 on or before October 20th!!  I really do LOVE to have something to work for.  I like to see how I can change my body and I LOVE seeing the results.  This is what I will do:
CUT CALORIES (Yes, this is reality.  You really need to slash them.)
LIMIT whole grain carbs to BREAKFAST only.
FRUITS and MOSTLY VEGETABLES GALORE.  I will have vegetables with every meal.
I’ll keep following my Jamie Eason weight workouts, 1-2 bootcamp workouts a week, 3 runs a week, body combat and zumba if I can fit them in!!   I ALWAYS workout 6 days a week.
No eating after 7:30 p.m.  This helps with mindless and unnecessary eating at night.
Here are a FEW healthy “TREATS” that help me get through the day:
Low sugar vanilla greek yogurt
Protein balls
Protein shakes and bars
String Cheese
A few (6-8) cashews
NOW, I need to print this and put it on my FRIDGE!!!  I like to reward myself too.  So, I’ll be heading to Lulu, J Crew, or Hollister to pick out my reward (:
Hope everyone is enjoying the FALL leaves.  I live in a BEAUTIFUL place where they SURROUND me.  Here is a canyon close to my home where I went to collage.  The leaves are PERFECT right now!  I think we found something to do with the kids this weekend.  A drive, picnic, and leaf peeping!!  The Best!
Enjoy this song and think of a SPECTACULAR place to visit this weekend!!
Italy, Bliss, and Top 5 weight loss tips
The Ponte Vecchio at sunset taken from Michelangelo Park in Florence
Have you ever been so excited and anxious about something that you almost didn’t want it to come because you knew it would be over soon?  I hope that’s not a pessimistic view.  I feel this way about vacations.  Sometimes when I’m reading a good book too.  I almost don’t want to finish it because it will be over.  In thinking about our trip to Europe I want to soak in every minute and everything around me.  I love to learn about and explore new places.  I will keep a VERY detailed journal of every place we go and what we do, so as not to FORGET!!  This picture of Florence Italy is one of the places we’re going.  Breathtaking.  I’ve always wanted to go to Italy!!
Next on my list is BLISS!!!  Yesterday I took my kids to LAGOON!!  Yes, it is an amusement park.
My sister and I were talking about our memories of Lagoon.  We went at least once every summer.  It was fun to remember the many times we ran around the park, going from ride to ride.  We watched the shows, rode the paddle boats, ran through the fun house over and over, walked around pioneer village, and ate “juice bars” from Pace’s Dairy Ann.  We had the best childhood!
Last night, when the lights were on, the familiar busy sounds and smells brought me back to my youth.  I watched my 11 year old daughter and her cousin excitedly talking about their favorite rides, dancing and doing cartwheels down the sidewalks, and screaming on the rides, “This is the best day of my life!”  I love that joyous, youthful, and innocent bliss of CHILDHOOD!  I’m glad she is happy and I hope as she grows up she will remember how to play and surround herself with other people that make her happy.  Lagoon, a priceless memory.
Last but not least, is my HEALTH SIDE of this post!  For some reason I like the number 5 and the number 20!  So, today I’ll talk about my 5 number one weight loss tips I’ve learned in my HUGE long life (:
  1. Eat Breakfast….AND make sure it’s QUALITY breakfast.  Cut out the sugar.  Donuts, bagels, and sugar cereal are not breakfast.  Ideas are scrambled eggs.  My favorite is one egg and 2 egg whites on Ezekial bread (It’s in the freezer section on the healthy nut isle).  I like strawberries, blueberries, melon, or a banana.  Protein shakes with spinich is another excellent option.
  2. Eat every 3 hours.  This one is SO IMPORTANT!!!!!  How do you feel if you barely eat breakfast and then skip lunch?  Right around 3 0’clock you get sleepy and need energy.  You’re so starving you want to eat everything in site.  I have this problem on Sundays!  If you eat every 3 hours your blood sugar will stay stable and you won’t feel that urge for instant sugar.  Your food choices will be smarter and you’ll eat less.
  3. Drink a TON of water!!!!!  How do you expect your body to flush out all the crap?  CUT out the soda pop as well, DIET and REGULAR!!  It is so bad for you.  If you get sick of water, buy the little Crystal light packets and add them to a bottle of water.  Add ice too, it tastes better.  Drink water before every meal.  It fills you up and makes you eat less.
  4. Cut out PROCESSED FOODS and REFINED FLOURS AND SUGARS!!!  If everyone did this, there would be NO weight problem in America.  When I came home from Spain one of the first things I noticed at the airport was how BIG everyone was!!  In Spain, they have bread with every meal.  They cook with oils and eat lots of different kinds of meats.  The fruit and vegetable section of the grocery stores were HUGE.  They prepared every meal and rarely ate out.  Remember that!!
  5. SLEEP.  If you don’t get enough sleep, you get run down, you get sick, and you don’t care what you eat.  Cravings for high sugar foods come to the brain because they make you feel good!!  Get your sleep!!  That’s a hard one for me, but if I’m tired in the day I will take a POWER nap.  I close my eyes for 15-20 minutes and doze!  It’s the best!!
I have MANY other weight loss tips.  These are just a few!!  I am an observer of persons.  When it comes to health and fitness, I ask questions of other healthy people.  It’s weird, but MANY people I ask don’t really give me details and they’re vague about their answers.  It’s like they don’t want to give their secrets away (:  I want to be the OPPOSITE!!  I’ll tell EVERYONE what I do.  I don’t have any fancy credentials to wave around, but 38 years into my life, I feel HEALTHY and STRONG.  I’ve found a way that works for me and keeps me FIT!!!
THIS MAKES ME LAUGH (Pardon the language)
Friends…the greatest motivator.
Today is my day to talk about whatever I want.  I have to share my EPICALLY AWESOME RACE!  Me and 5 of some of the most amazing people I know ran a 200 mile race together starting in Logan, UT and ending in beautiful Jackson, WY.  We had another van of 6 that ran the miles as well.  So really, I only ran about 18 miles total.
I had never done a RAGNAR type race before and I thought I wouldn’t like it.  I was VERY wrong!  We had so much fun together!  We’re all on about the  same level of running fitness, we each had a competitive drive, we brought the BEST food, we cheered each other on, and had fun with all our KILLZ (That’s a word that means you passed someone!)  I think we had 65 or so!  We got VERY little sleep and we SURVIVED cheerfully!  I can’t wait to do it again.  Here are a few pictures!
By far the cutest team up there!
Run like a Girl!
We all about died when we saw this HILL, especially the one that had to RUN it!
Our Epic tattoos!
The best lunch spread!
Going in for the KILL!
Time to stretch out!
“I love you guys!” -Kung Fu Panda
What a RIDE!  Another incredibly awesome STAT about this group is we have 24 children between the 6 of us!!!  We should have been THE HOT MAMAS or something like that!
I think many people have a hard time staying motivated to exercise.  I was BLESSED with the motivating gene and RARELY suffer from that problem.  I do tell people MY NUMBER #1 MOTIVATING ADVICE IS TO FIND A FRIEND!!  There’s nothing like meeting rain or shine, day or night, to pound out the miles and hash out life together!!  I ALWAYS feel better after a RUN!!
ENJOY the final days of SUMMER!!  Fall is my next favorite time of year, beautiful time to run through the CRUNCHY leaves!
