Once in a lifetime…Boston

Happy Friday and Happy Spectacular Boston Marathon!  What a wonderful trip that will go down in my all time favorite memory book!  Once again I feel blessed and extremely privileged!  Words cannot describe the feelings, energy, support, excitement, resilience, and emotions that surrounded this year’s race.

Last Fall, 10,000 daffodil bulbs were planted along the race course and the logo BOSTON STRONG was worn, waved, and shouted out by thousands.  I read scriptures on t-shirts and many others that said praying for you from start to finish.  The people were genuinely proud, grateful, helpful, and so very thrilled and amazed that we came to Boston to run!  Talk about an emotional run!  I kept a journal throughout the trip and wrote in it each night.  I think I’ll summarize a few of my thoughts from the night of my run!!

“A day to go down in history for me.  Today I ran the Boston Marathon.  So many thoughts were going through my head during the race.  Several times I’d look around and ahead of me and say to myself, I am running the Boston Marathon!  How the heck did I get here?  It was the perfect race day.  Everything went smoothly as I’d hoped.  Rob drove me and a couple friends to Hopkinton-the race start.  I think we walked 2 miles before the race even started.  I was in wave 3 that started at 11:00 a.m.  I ran by myself with one ear phone in.  I wrote my name on my arm and everyone cheers your name as you run.  The scenery was beautiful-my favorite!  Quaint trees and old New England charm.  The crowds were unbelievable and the feeling of hope, resilience, and strength from last year’s event was felt everywhere.  Signs, t-shirts, shout outs, music, crazy people, high fives.  Fans handing out oranges, licorice, and drinks.  The noise was unreal.  The course was small hills the whole way.  Not easy!  The time went by fast but it was probably my slowest marathon and I didn’t care.  I loved all the stuff they gave us.  I’m really proud of course and will cherish all my memorabilia.  Boston Strong was the theme and cute Julie gave me a card and a sweatshirt at the end that said that!  I love Boston.  I feel it has a very special place in my heart now.  I loved running through all the beautiful towns-Wellesley College, Boston College were so fun and the last 3 miles into Boston…incredible.  I was dying!  My legs almost cramped up.  I was worried but I made it over the line!  We had to walk through the finisher’s shoot forever and only water was handed out for awhile.  Near the family meeting area where I met Rob they finally gave me a banana and a protein bar.  That made me feel so much better!  After a little recovery, we met Julie and Ronnie.  They have been so much fun to be with.  We took the train back to a parking lot and drove to Julie’s.  I showered up and they took us to dinner at a local restaurant by them.  It’s been so good to catch up and reminisce.  We made it back to our hotel by Laurie at 11:00 p.m.  I feel so good, accomplished, and wasted!”

So, there you have it!!  Mostly unedited thoughts from Boston.  This post is getting so long that I think I’ll break it up and talk about the latter part of the trip tomorrow!  I’m still on cloud 9!  Loved it all!

securedownload-9 securedownloadI cannot forget one last thing!  2 days before I was to fly out, my bestest friends secretly made a sweet sticker to put on my car!

securedownloadIt’s huge and so sweet of them to think of me!!  I thought of my friends and wished they were with me running the streets of Boston!  So many friends and family gave me well wishes and congratulations!  Blessed.  Grateful.  Love.

Happy Workout Day!!  This morning I was up with my 5 am crew.  And I didn’t sleep well…arghh…I’m not following my need for sleep this week!  I will be taking a nap today (: I put together some of my favorite exercises that I did on my trip in Florida.  I was so sore!  This is pretty intense and takes about an hour with little breaks.  All over body love!

Well!  I’m counting down the days till my marathon!  My cute little kids were asking questions about the race. They understand what happened a year ago and that this is a pretty big deal.  They were acting a little nervous and so I asked them if they were worried about me and they said they were.  Oh!  That hurt my heart a little.  I tried to explain to them how I’d be fine and that everything will be more secure this year.  My cute 11 year old wants to wear his Boston Red Sox t-shirt on Monday.  I’m also meeting up with a childhood friend that lives in Boston.  It’ll be great to know someone who lives there and to reconnect.  It’s amazing how you can always turn to dear long time friends no matter how much time has passed.

I’ve been trying to decide what apparel memorabilia I need to purchase from this experience (:  I guess every year Boston has a color theme.  This year it’s orange and blue.  The most popular thing to buy is the jacket.  I guess everyone buys them yet many of my friends bought them and never wear it.  I saw this cute hoodie that I think I’d rather have!

D80170_01 D87121_01  That’ll probably be it.  I’m also questioning these cuties too!  We’ll see!

D87129_01 D87165_01 D87137_01I’ve been watching the weather and as of today, the forecast is 57 for the high and 44 for the low.  PERFECT!  My friends were teasing me yesterday about putting up a sign proclaiming my race in Boston.  They kept going with the idea and said they’d put it in a high traffic area and find some swimsuit shot of me.  I know they WON’T do that really (: We were laughing so hard as my face turned red from embarrassment!  I like being low profile, sorta.

O.K.  lastly and totally unrelated but not really.  Tonight we’re going to Il Divo.  I’ve found out that most people haven’t heard of them!  Jaw drop!  Amazing and most beautiful voices.  Here is one of my latest favs of theirs.  This is sung with Michael Ball who is incredible too.  Maybe it will be on my marathon playlist!  Enjoy and be happy for Spring time!!  Summer can’t come fast enough for me!

What to do a week before a marathon

We made it back from sunny Florida!  It was beautiful!  So nice to get away and only think about my workout, what to eat, if I wanted to go to the beach or pool, spa appointments…we were spoiled!  And when we returned, we literally hit the ground running.  I went straight to the junior high to pick up my daughter from cheer tryout AND she made it!!  She’s been on cloud 900!  My husband went straight to coaching at the ball field.  I have a few minutes to write and then I want to dig into laundry, housework, and grocery shopping.  Welcome Home!!

I didn’t take too many pics.  Here are a few.  I kept thinking how much my kids would have LOVED the beach!

securedownload-3 securedownloadWhile on the trip, I was able to read a couple books and my Runner’s World magazine.  This last issue was all about Boston.  They estimate 1 million spectators and 36,000 runners.  I cannot imagine that!  What a privilege for me.  This is what I will be thinking and doing during my last week before my race of a lifetime!

Number one on my list is SLEEP!  I’ll still exercise everyday, probably classes at the gym.  I’ll run 3-4 miles 3 times.  I’ll eat what I normally eat and cut out all the stuff I shouldn’t eat. As for my thoughts…CONFIDENCE.  Believe.  Determination.  Endurance.  Calm.  Relax.  Athlete.  Runner.  Patience.  Enjoy.  Smile.

I need to get out and work in my yard before the sun goes down.  Easter egg hunt on Monday!!  Enjoy life and be positive!  Happy Running.  Cherish. (:

Just keep running and LIFT already

I’ve been too tired lately…I’m going to go crawl into bed in just a minute and it’s 8:50.  That is after I put the kids to bed, do the dishes, and get all my workout stuff together for my 6:00 a.m. class tomorrow.  I’ve been trying to motivate myself to eat better.  I’ve even tried to think of a prize or reward and I got nothing!  I miss weights, leg day, and not worrying about running some absurd number of miles.  I eat better when I’m weight training.  K!  I’ll stop being a little whiner.  I’m running the Boston Marathon!  Hello!!!  A once in a lifetime experience and I know I will love it!!!  This year will be especially moving and extraordinary!

BM_2012_VERT_KToday I was able to drop everything at about 2:00 p.m. and go for a 6 mile solo run in almost 70 degree weather.  I have to say it was a spiritual experience (:  I really am inspired and lifted when I run.  I’m grateful I’m healthy!  Speaking of healthy, I’m been mulling over the idea of doing Eat to Live again.  I kept a notebook of my weight and diet when I did it before and I’ve never felt better.  I’m not starting 100% right now, but I will try to cut out meat, which I don’t really like anyway.  Eggs are a hard one for me.  I need to read about that some more.  I’ll keep you posted.

Today is Tuesday night, but this will be Wednesday’s post, which is workout day!  I loved training my 5 am group this morning and tomorrow is my church group.  Here are the workouts!!  Both of them AWESOME!!!

These were inspired from GPP fitness and Oxygen magazine!  I also started up an Instagram under hollsfitlife for my clients.  It will be a fast and easy way to post meal and snack ideas, workouts, and inspiration.  I’m a little obsessed…with fitness.  This is me (:

obsession_definition_button-p145246644539030630t5sj_400 I guess if I’m obsessed over something, this is a good one!  Good Night!  Next post will be titled 20 MILES BABY!!!
