Something is missing from the DIET food list!

You know the song that goes something like, “Your love, your love is my drug?”  I have a few drugs in my life * that bring me euphoria!  And…don’t be surprised, one of them is EXERCISE!!!!!!  Today was a day to get things done.  It was also the day to review all the things that have not worked properly or have broken at our house in the last little while!  To add to that list, the washing machine went out and the water softener fix it man said our water softener is 25 yrs. old and we should really get a new one ):

The 5:00 o’clock hour rolled around and I hadn’t worked out either.  Usually at that time of night I don’t even want to go, but I got myself together and went to the gym.  I did bi’s, tri’s, abs, and sprints.  I felt better and better as every sweaty minute rolled by.  As I was driving home the song came to me, “Your love, your love, your love is my drug,”  Hence, the gym is my drug!

O.k. and to top the evening off even better I made the BEST, soft, white, french bread ever!!!!  I think it needs to be added to the SUPER FOODS list!  White bread is FOR SURE never on the “food to eat” list.  I hate that!  Oh well, a couple of slices of homemade white bread and a protein shake isn’t that bad for dinner?

Thankfully, my fastie friends want to run 15 miles tomorrow 0:!!  You’d think they were training for Boston or something!  I’ll try to hang with them as long as possible and maybe burn off the white bread!  I’m hearing rumors though that we’re getting 2 feet of snow tomorrow. Hmmm…I might need to get some snow shoes and take off up this trail.  Actually, I see snow mobile tracks.  That would be even more fun!

Lastly, my house thoughts for the day!  I found a chandelier for above my stairs!  It’s at Pottery Barn!  I love the lantern look.  So pretty~

img12oNext, I’m thinking of this accent chair for my great room.  What do you think?  It’s from West Elm.

img21oWe’re also thinking of new bedding and I’ve changed my mind (that happens often) to this from Pottery Barn!  So cozy!  I need to go to bed!

Have a beautiful Saturday!  Dream of Warm, Happy, Outstanding, and Summery thoughts *

Ode to Bode and a diet review

Tis the season of gift giving!  This year Christmas will be a new house for me, but one of my favorite things besides exercising and eating healthy is yes, clothes.  I especially like cute dresses and skirts.  BODEN is the BEST and I’m so glad I found them (:  For one, I am tall (5’7”) and I need longer lengths.  ALL their dresses and skirts come in LONG!!  They are the best, totally unique, well made, and flattering.  I ALWAYS get compliments when I wear anything BODEN.  They are classic, long lasting styles that you will keep forever!  Here are a few favorites of mine from this season!

189714203024749632_UJMrqDwr_cMany people think the prices are too high!  I NEVER buy anything through Boden unless it’s on sale.  They always have REALLY good sales, especially AFTER Christmas.  So, save your money gifts and purchase something for you to celebrate a YEAR well done!!!  YOU WILL LOVE THEM!!

P.S. The dress I’m wearing on my home page is Boden and the one below.  This is from our fun field trip day yesterday!

As for my EAT TO LIVE diet rant for the day!  I have been following the Eat to Live diet for about 3 1/2 weeks.  I took 2 days off around Thanksgiving.  It is VERY healthy and not too hard to follow.  The crazy, difficult thing is the no meat, no dairy.  I was a little discouraged last week when I went to a fun new deli in town.  I looked over the menu and realized there was NOTHING I could eat.  Did I cave?  No, I went home and made my stand by salad.  I’m kind of an ALL or NOTHING person.  That’s not always the best, but it works for me with losing weight.  I FEEL really good right now and I love where my weight is at.  I’m a HUGE advocate of NO white flour, white sugar, or processed foods.  You can work out all you want at the gym, but you’re really wasting your time if you don’t eat healthy.  When you follow a healthy diet made up of mostly fruits and vegetables, you will lean out quickly and lose the water and fat around your muscles.  I see way more definition when I’m eating healthy along with resistance training.  Follow any of my workouts and follow this diet and YOU WILL GET THE BODY YOU WANT!

Sorry so long!!  I’ll end on a happy picture.  SO PRETTY!!  I know it’s winter, but this looks so cozy!  How nice to be on a lake!  *Fishing anyone?*

Never Settle!

So, I had a small mental breakdown yesterday and started furiously scribbling my frustrations on a pad of paper.  One of my greatest pet peeves are UNRELIABLE and I CAN’T people!  I am not perfect either.  I am always revamping and rationalizing my fitness goals.  I have such a problem kicking my sugar tooth!  THIS POST IS FOR ME!  I’m going back to a favorite word of mine:

I have a GOAL to be at 18% body fat and weigh 129 lbs.  I want sculpted arms and lean muscular legs.  I want to run a 3:29 marathon in less than a month.  I will GIVE everything I have to achieve this.  I WILL NOT GIVE UP!  I believe anyone can accomplish anything they want in life.  It is HARD.  You will FAIL…before you WIN.

One of the BEST athletes of all time said, “I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.”

~ Michael Jordan

Dedication.  Commitment.  Passion.  Tenacity.  Cut the crap excuses and stop blaming everything and everyone for your failed attempts at YOUR GOALS.  Make it a priority.  How bad do you want it?  The human mind and body can achieve and accomplish so MUCH MORE than you feel you are capable of.  BELIEVE IT AND LIVE UP TO IT!

O.K.  I have some serious talking to do.  Yesterday was my sister’s birthday and the first day of the year I really fell off the HEALTHY WAGON and ate as much sugar as I possibly could.  Normally, I pride myself on being able to eat large amounts of TREATS without getting sick, but yesterday was NOT SO!!!  All I can say is SUGAR is so so so so so BAD for you!!!!!
Here is a brief overhaul of my much anticipated TREAT DAY…I started the day out well with a protein shake since I was going to my favorite body combat class!!  It was GREAT and I felt awesome!  Not long after and before lunch I started snacking on candy (cinnamon bears, bridge mix, and taffy).  My normal lunch of a healthy salad did not look good at all and I could barely eat it.  After eating all the candy, it didn’t even taste good.  Good, clean food tastes SOOOO good when you are not eating sugar!!!  I also shared my favorite shake with a friend and ate a brownie.  I really didn’t eat anything else that was healthy the rest of the day.
Later, I went out to my sister’s.  We wanted to go to the gym together.  It was a GREAT weight and cardio class that I normally would love, but I felt like CRAP!!!  My stomach was in a knot, I started getting a headache, and I had lack of will-power and energy.  It doesn’t get any better either.
After the gym we had a party at my sister’s where we had pizza, cake, cookies, and more candy!!!  I stopped eating at 9:00 p.m. I thought that was being GOOD.  On the bright side, I am SOOOOO glad I don’t have many vices.  I do not drink soda pop or alcohol.  I don’t love fast food, fried food, packaged and processed food etc. etc.  I love FOOD that has less than 3 ingredients or that don’t have a label on them at all!!
I felt terrible when I got home that night.  I was so tired, my body ached, and I was cranky with everyone.  I slept terrible and seriously woke up a couple of times in the night with acid reflux and almost threw up.  My body was in agony and wondering what the heck I did to it!!!
On another BRIGHT note, I am now more dedicated than ever to NEVER do that again!!!!  I have given myself 3 TREAT days a month and right now that sounds like TORTURE!!  I think I will do a TREAT meal or a 3 hour block to have a few treats.  I’ll let you know after I get over this HANGOVER!!  So, my plea to ALL is PLEASE EAT HEALTHY AND CUT OUT THE SUGAR!!  IT WILL KILL YOU!  That is a little harsh I know (:  I am going to say for myself however: “YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT!!!!”  And I am a PIG!!
A GREAT motivator and inspiration to me is TOSCA RENO.  She changed her bad habits at age 40 and is a healthy role model to all.  Check her out at eatcleandiet.com.  Her healthy eating approach is normal!  Her books and ideas are all about healthy eating for LIFE.  No fad crazy diets where you have to cut out whole food groups or only eat blah blah blah….the list is SO long on dieting.  She is all about eating SMART!!   Keep it up all and remember tomorrow is a NEW day with no mistakes in it!!

Happy February 1st

So, I want to share my new thoughts for FEBRUARY.  I’m trying to give up sugar for most days 🙂 I figured out that if I ate treats for 10% of the year that would be 3 treat days a month!  I’m a believer of what works for one doesn’t work for all.  I’m not good at having just 1 cookie a day.  I like to eat a LOT of sugary and chocolatey yumminess.  I’m sure it’s not good to eat this way, but it works for me.  So, I will eat healthy every day except 3 days out of every month.  On those days I will not worry about being so strict and enjoy my favorite treats.

Best cake ever!

That is more of a yearly goal for me.  For my FEBRUARY goal I am going to weigh myself every day.  I know their is a lot of controversy around this.  I am constantly reading about how you shouldn’t worry about what the number says on the scale but about how you feel…is that why half our country is obese?  Hmm, I think we ought to pay attention to the scale.  I consciously eat better when I know I’m going to weigh myself.  So, I’ll keep track for a week and post my #’s every week.  So daring of me!!  For some reason I was SUPER up today.  I weighed 137!  I really like to stay under 132.  I’m not freaking out though, I think it was just a flukey thing.

On the healthy side, I found this AWESOME protein pancake recipe!

1/4 c egg whites

1 scoop vanilla protein powder

2 T almond or skim milk

1 t cinnamon

1 T ground flaxseed

1/2 mashed banana

Mix or blend together, add blueberries to batter or strawberries on top!  Cook on a griddle.
