20 and a few favorites for the day!

20 miles Baby!  Well, as usual, time never stops.  My 20 miler came and went!!  The day before I was a little nervous.  I need to chill.  Everything was great!!  I ran with two awesome girls who will be with me in Boston.  It was a beautiful run!  Some of you won’t get this, but I want to write it down to remember the route.  We started at the top of 4th North and ran South until we hit a trail.  Then we kept going on the trail till it almost headed down to Salt Lake.  Turned around and ran the whole length back, till we hit another trail by the B.  We hopped on that one and ran through to the road.  Ran down 4th N. to Davis.  We were at 16 miles at that point.  We ran out 2 miles and back.  The run equaled 20.5 to be exact (:  My legs started feelin’ it when we hit Davis but I stayed with it and we made it.  Yay!!  Great feeling!  They want to run 20 next week.  I might do it in hopes that my body with be stronger and feel better prepared for the marathon.  With that, here is my FAVORITE quote of the day!!

Burpee birthday and granola

Today we had a “FAVORITE THINGS” workout!  We did 15 minutes of burpees!!  We did 10 burpees on every minute.  AWESOME!  It should have been longer.  I wanted to do a ton of planks too, but we did ZUMBA instead!  Everyone loves zumba!  I don’t know what’s gotten into me, but I’m in ultra cooking and baking mode.  I’ve been experimenting with my own creations and making a few standbys.  Here I am with my daughters who are always willing to try whatever concoction I come up with!

IMG_3405Last night I whipped up a batch of healthy granola bars for my workout friends!  SO YUMMY!  Such a great grab and go snack.  Perfect for kids too!  Here is my version that I got from HERE!

1 cup dates (pitted)

1 1/4 cups crisp rice cereal

1 cup oats

1/4 cup sliced almonds

2 T ground flaxseed

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 cup natural crunchy peanut butter

1/3 cup agave syrup

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/4 cup mini semisweet chocolate chips

Spray an 8×8 pan with non-stick cooking spray; set aside.

Place the dates in a food processor and pulse until finely chopped.  Combine the

pureed dates with the cereal, oats, almonds, flaxseed, and cinnamon in a large bowl.

Combine the peanut butter and agave in a small saucepan over medium heat, stirring until melted

and completely blended.  Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla.

Pour the peanut butter mixture over the oat mixture and stir until well combined.  Let cool for 15 minutes.

Stir in the chocolate chips.  Turn the mixture into the prepared pan and press firmly to pack the mixture into the pan.

Let the mixture sit until completely cool and set, at least 1 hour.  Cut into bars, then wrap individually in

plastic wrap and store in the refrigerator.

Here I am with the finished product.  I was making peppermint and mint bark at the same time.  I’ll save those for the neighbors because most of my workout friends won’t eat them!

IMG_3435Tomorrow is 12-20!!!  Yay!  Happy Birthday to me!  I have BIG plans for the last year in my 30’s.  Life only gets better and better with age!  I still have several things to bake.  Sugar cookies for the youth tonight, lemon bars and homemade rolls for me!!!  It will be a GREAT day!  I love spending time with all my favorite people!  Today I want to finish all my housework and any other tasks I dislike so I can kick my feet up tomorrow!!

Try something NEW!!

Do you like to exercise?  From what I hear, many people dread it.  I’m lucky that I love everything about it.  I seriously get that endorphin, natural high from physical exertion.  I love feeling strong and healthy.  If you are in an exercise rut think about trying something NEW!!!!  Get out of your comfort zone and get to some new classes at the gym.  No one is looking at you because they are all looking at themselves.  To get results, lose weight, or tighten up, you NEED to change your routine.  Do not think that the same 5 miles you run 3 days a week is going to do anything for you.  Yes, it is better than nothing, but you need to trick your body and work it out of the comfortable zone.  You’ll FEEL so much better….after.  I promise!  Here are a few of my FAVS at the gym.

BODY PUMP.  Do not be intimidated by weights.  They are the best way to get lean, toned muscles!

Love this quote!!

Super funny!!

When Zumba first came out I thought it would be the lamest, easiest “workout”.  It has now become one of my favorite classes that I always look forward to.  PLEASE give it a try!  I’m lucky one of my good friends is a Zumba instructor and I think she’s the BEST!!  You will have so much fun you won’t notice you’re sweating like CRAZY!!

A must!!

BODY COMBAT!!  If you love to workout with loud, awesome music you will love this class!!  Works your entire body and you feel totally tough and fit.  Once again, don’t be afraid to try something new.  Find workout buddies to help you motivate each other.  Download new songs to your ipod and MIX it up!!  Have you ever finished exercising and wished you didn’t do it?
